I’d like to take a minute to let you know why we are here!

Several years ago, I was one of those crazy ladies, that had to buy every new candle I came across. Well, then I bring them home and stick them under hubbies nose and say boy doesn’t this smell great, he’d nod his head, (I think just out of habit). Then I’d light it up, and think, boy my house is gonna smell great. Here’s where the problems began!

First, I’d say honey, “can you smell anything” (Then I’d get that head nod thing again). Well I didn’t smell anything. Then I’d just keep burning that non smelling candle, (I bought it, didn’t I). Well this would go on for several days. Then Boy, did I get mad, There was a hole down the middle of the candle, and half the wax was still there (I paid for this non smelling candle, I wanted to at least burn it all up). So here I am, Griping at hubby about this candle some more. Well finally (he’s very diplomatic) he says, you know you’re a pretty smart gal, don’t you think you could make your own ( he’s just thinking, this has got to be cheaper).

So here begins Sue Croft Candles, Well needless to say, I made a lot of those non smelling, lousy burning candles too! But with hubbies help and wonderful support, and lots, and lots, and lots of our experiments thrown in the trash we finally came up with our very own blend of wax. It makes a candle that smells great when you pick it up and smell it, gives off loads of wonderful fragrance when it burns, burns all the wax clear down to the wick tab and has great burn times.

Well then folks got to asking, would you make us some candles, So I did. Then a few local stores ask, would you wholesale candles to us. So I did. Well it got a little out of hand and I needed help. So I hired a young man to work for me full time! Well it got a little further out of hand, and hubby decided lets not pay another employee, I think I can make candles. So he quit his job and came to work for me (with the understanding I was the boss). I believe he thought the fringe benefits would be better!

Now after a few years, he had an idea for a candle line, and after 3 years of getting everything just the way he wanted it (and being an ole country boy, who spent to much time in the barn) Bootleg Candles™ was born.

Since our beginning about 9 years ago, folks continually have been asking how to make candles like ours and where to get the supplies. Well, just like the baked beans this is a secret family recipe (and our dog ain‘t telling‘), so we decided to make our blended wax available for purchase. Well wax don’t do much good without wicks and colors and fragrance and molds and etc. so we decide to make it all available.

So for the folks who still want to make their own candles, Bootleg Candles™ is offering the same wonderful candle and soap supplies we use ourselves!!

Also hubby has been up to new tricks. When I wasn’t looking he started making lots of wonderful molds (I wondered what he was doing in the barn).

He makes molds from urethane (polyurethane) and polystyrene. All these molds can be used for candle making, or soap making.
